asphericon at Frontiers in Optics 2018

Jena/Sarasota, September 2018: asphericon will present its latest findings on Mid-spatial frequency (MSF) for aspherical and freeform surfaces at this year’s Frontiers in Optics (FiO). In addition, the technology leader participates in several events for students and (young) scientists. One highlight will be the presentation of the Kevin P. Thompson Award to Vice President Strategy & Innovation Dr. Ulrike Fuchs. She is honored for innovative combinations of optical design and manufacturing processes. The company also presents high-end aspherical products and systems at the accompanying exhibition.

OSA conference on Research and Industry

FiO is one of the annual conferences of the Optical Society of America (OSA). At the conference session “Novel Devices, Manufacturing and Testing” Dr. Ulrike Fuchs will present different specifications and tolerancing of Mid-spatial frequency (MSF) for aspheric and freeform surfaces. Various models will be discussed with respect to their suitability for optical design, manufacturing and metrology. On Monday evening, the first Kevin P. Thompson Optical Design Innovator Award for contributions to the optical industry and additional prizes will be presented at a festive ceremony.

Student Leadership Conference

In addition to various sessions and the accompanying exhibition, a series of special events will take place at FiO, including the Student Leadership Conference. This conference gives young OSA members the opportunity to get in touch with leading scientists and entrepreneurs in optics/photonics and learn more about personal success stories. Dr. Ulrike Fuchs will give insights into her research and entrepreneurial life.

Women in Photonics

Another highlight is the Women of Light Symposium, organized by WiSTEE CONNECT (Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Entrepreneurship). With the aim of building a strong network of women in science, industry and politics, the initiative aims to develop strategies to promote women leadership at all career stages. asphericon supports this project and participates with Dr. Ulrike Fuchs in a panel discussion on career strategies for women.
