asphericon GmbH mourns the loss of Dr. rer. nat. habil. Hermann Döhler. The company's co-founder, long-standing supporter and one of its most important early mentors has passed away at the age of 82.
Even before asphericon was founded, Dr. Döhler supported the early academic work of the company's future founders at the Institute of Computer Science at Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He played a particularly important role in supervising Sven Kiontke's diploma thesis. The work laid important foundations for the establishment of asphericon in 2001.
Dr. Döhler's contribution extended far beyond academic guidance. During the early stages of the company's development, he shared his technical expertise and experience, served as an advisor and trusted sounding board, and supported the young founding team in addressing numerous challenges. Even after leaving the company as a shareholder, he maintained close ties with asphericon for many years and followed its development with great interest.
“Dr. Hermann Döhler was an outstanding technical expert, but above all, he was a warm-hearted and approachable person who greatly valued both professional and personal exchange. He always made time for our questions and ideas and believed in what we were setting out to achieve from the very beginning. We are deeply grateful for his trust, support and many years of dedication to asphericon,” says Alexander Zschäbitz, Managing Director and Co-founder of asphericon GmbH.
Thomas Kurschel, shareholder and the company's first employee, also recalls those early days: “He was full of ideas and formulas. Tucked away in his desk drawer was a mathematical algorithm that would later become the foundation of asphericon's success. Together with the founders, he developed this approach further and saw it transformed into an industrial application. I can still remember how we, as the asphericon team, would regularly gather around a whiteboard covered in formulas, discussing solutions together.”
Dr. Hermann Döhler played a decisive role in shaping the foundation and development of asphericon. His knowledge and personal commitment will remain an important part of the company's history.
The management and employees of asphericon GmbH extend their deepest condolences to his family and all those who were close to him.
