Dr. Ulrike Fuchs elected to the Board of Directors of OPTICA

Optics society announces results for current term

ena/Washington, DC, October 19, 2022: Dr. Ulrike Fuchs, VP Strategy & Innovation at asphericon GmbH, has been elected by the members of OPTICA as a director and will support the work of the non-profit organization in the coming years. Alongside Julie Sheridan Eng. (Coherent, Inc., USA) and Aleksandra Boskovic (Corning, USA) she will be augmenting the Board of Directors for the 2023-2025 term. Election results were announced at the OPTICA annual meeting, which is being held as part of the Frontiers in Optics conference from October 17 to 20, 2022.

“I am honored to have been nominated as a candidate for the OPTICA Board and now to have been elected,” says Ulrike Fuchs, pleased about the election result and the opportunities it brings. She herself knows the importance of OPTICA’s activities both from her own experience as a scientist and from an industry perspective: “OPTICA has accompanied me from the beginning of my academic career and I really appreciate its great commitment to students and young professionals alike. I am committed to continuing this tradition. Existing programs, whether on-site events or virtual workshops, offer a wide range of professional development and networking opportunities.” With regard to the photonics industry, she adds: “Inspired by my work in the industry, I would also like to increasingly address additional target groups. This applies firstly to the group of postdocs and secondly to the corporate members of OPTICA.”

Once every two years the optics society elects its Board of Directors, for which members around the world can be nominated. In addition to preparing and following-up on meetings, the Board’s main tasks also include networking and representing OPTICA at trade fairs. The Board’s appointment for the 2023-2025 term took place as part of Frontiers in Optics, held annually in Rochester, New York. Attendees from around the world participated in this year’s conference and special events, which were held for the first time as a hybrid format.
