Squaring the circle

World first for square Top-Hat profiles

asphericon to unveil new beam shaper at Laser World of Photonics 2022

Jena, April 2022: asphericon is adding another compact beam shaper to its range. When used in conjunction with a focusing lens, the brand-new a|SqAiryShape produces square beam profiles suitable for a wide wavelength range. It’s about to be unveiled at Laser World of Photonics in Munich, the world’s leading trade show for photonics components, systems and applications. asphericon, the technology pioneer from the city of Jena, will be joining numerous exhibitors and international trade visitors from the photonics and laser industry with its own stand, and will also deliver presentations on freeforms and beam shaping.

The a|SqAiryShape transforms collimated Gaussian beams into various focused square top-hat intensity distributions. The diameters of the input and output beams are freely scalable, and the device’s wide spectral range of 300 to 1,600 nm is ideal for applications in for instance metrology, microscopy and material processing. “Our trials already indicate that the a|SqAiryShape makes for improvements in laser processing, such as far shorter processing times in surface nano-structuring, and the possibility to control the ablation geometry when producing micro-channels,” explained product manager Torsten Stephan.

As well as collimated laser beams, the new beam shaper can also be used with a fibre-coupled source. “Moreover, this BeamTuning product is distinguished by its excellent optical quality and compact design. We can’t wait to launch the a|SqAiryShape at Laser World of Photonics!” added Torsten. Thanks to asphericon’s modular approach and special assembly concept, the a|SqAiryShape (like all products in the BeamTuning line) can easily be screwed into place without any complicated installation. It’s also enhanced by its easy handling as well as its simple integration into existing set-ups. To find out more, visit: asphericon.com/en/products/beamtuning
