As a founder, you have to think about a lot of things: the right funding, establishing contacts with initial investors, promoting your product and much more. When starting a technology company with a manufacturing focus, there are sometimes even more important things to think about…
What founders of a start-up should definitely have with them during their first summer:
- a swimsuit
- a comfortable place to lie down
- a towel
Imagine the following scenario: It’s summer in central Germany, a beautiful summer with long days and hot temperatures. You have successfully launched your start-up idea, started a company and hope that everything will go well technologically and that the first orders will be acquired. In your bag, which you pack for work, are: a swimsuit, a towel, a comfortable and fluffy pillow.
What do you think you will need these items for? For a nice day at the beach of a lake or a great day at the pool? Far from it!
Step 2: Briefly check the optics and then back to the towel
Now please imagine the following scenario: It’s a hot summer in central Germany, with very long, beautiful days. You have founded a start-up and finally got access to a production area with the necessary machines. Only the compressed air generator that you absolutely need is missing. You get that generator and move it into the manufacturing space. You turn on the compressed air generator and notice that it potentiates the hot air in the room many times over. The workshop heats up to over 30 degrees. You think about your bag, which you have packed, and get into your swimsuit with relief, continue to work on the planned prototypes for a first customer project and wipe the sweat from your forehead every now and then - that’s what the towel is for. As the founder of the start-up, you naturally work a double shift. During the day at the machines, at night as CEO. In between, you need another item: the cozy pillow. You lie down on the couch that your grandfather kindly donated. The couch is a bit outdated, but very comfortable. You sleep for half an hour and then it’s back to the swimsuit and the machine.
