asphericon participates for the third year in a row as the main local sponsor of the competition for cycling promotion and climate protection

Jena, July 16, 2024: From August 30 to September 19, 2024, it’s time to pedal hard again in Jena. The 8th Jena STADTRADELN calls on all citizens to switch from cars to bicycles as often as possible and to collect kilometers. Whether for work or leisure, the main goal is to travel CO2-free for a livable city, to promote cycling, and to protect the climate. Participation is doubly rewarding: for every kilometer cycled, donations are made, and the most active cyclists are awarded. Prizes will be given to the most active and largest teams, as well as the teams with the most kilometers cycled. Prize money will be awarded to the most active school classes and clubs.

STADTRADELN – What it’s all about

STADTRADELN is an international competition with the goal to cycle as many daily routes as possible in a climate-friendly way for one’s own community over a period of 21 days. It doesn’t matter if you already cycle daily or only rarely use a bicycle. Every kilometer counts, especially if it replaces a car trip. The idea is to get people excited about the benefits of cycling by letting them try it out for three weeks.

Jena’s STADTRADELN

The city of Jena has been organizing STADTRADELN since 2017 and the number of participants has been increasing every year. Everyone who lives, works, belongs to a club, or attends a (higher) school in the city can participate. Since 2018, asphericon has also entered a team in the competition, encouraging more and more employees to join each year - since 2022 even as the main sponsor of the initiative in Jena. A partnership that supports and brings joy.

Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, Mayor of Jena and an enthusiastic cyclist himself, looks forward to the event and the renewed collaboration: “STADTRADELN is a highlight for Jena every year. I am pleased to see how many people we can mobilize for climate protection and the promotion of cycling. The cooperation with asphericon has always been excellent. Important information and registration for 2024

Registration for STADTRADELN is free and can be done online at stadtradeln.de/jena. Once registered, you can join an existing team or create your own. From August 30th to September 19th, you can register your kilometers online or track them with the STADTRADELN app. All kilometers must be recorded in the online kilometer log by September 26th.

Prizes and Awards

Trophies will be awarded to the most active cyclists (km/cyclist), the largest teams, and the teams with the most kilometers cycled (places 1-3). For the first time, the most active registered clubs (e.V.) with the most kilometers per participant will receive prize money:

• 1.Place: 300 €
• 2.Place: 200 €
• 3.Place: 100 €

Note: The club team must consist of at least five people.

SCHOOL CYCLING in Thuringia

For the second time, the Thuringian SCHOOL CYCLING will also take place. There will be prizes for the classes with the most bicycle kilometers, the most kilometers per capita, and the most active participants (percentage). In addition, the AGFK Thuringia will raffle two special prizes of 400 € each among all participating schools. For more information, visit stadtradeln.de/schulradeln-thueringen.

Kick-off tour to the monastery church in Thalbürgel on August 31st

The STADTRADELN kick-off tour in 2024 will lead 13 kilometers along the church bike path to Thalbürgel for a tour of the monastery church. After the tour, the route continues on the Thuringian “Mühlenradweg” to the restaurant “Zum Stern” in Graitschen, where participants will be offered a small refreshment.

The tour starts on Saturday, August 31st, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Landfeste Jena (west side of the Camsdorfer Bridge). Admission and the tour are free for kick-off tour participants. The return to Jena will be arranged individually. Pre-registration is requested at stadtradeln@jena.de.
